Minister of Worship Arts First United Methodist Church – Americus Summary description of purpose and goals of this position: The Minister of Worship Arts at First United Methodist Church of Americus leads the church toward a music and arts ministry that is spiritually grounded, focused, dynamic and life changing. Music and other worship arts are tools for leading people of all ages to Christ, for discipling persons and strengthening their faith, for helping them experience true worship, and for glorifying God. The goal of this position is to bring glory to God through worship arts and to be used by God to create and enhance commitment to Jesus Christ. The worship arts ministry seeks to provide opportunities for people touched by its programs to experience ministry and community while growing in their faith. This position is committed to enhancing current programs and leading them to their fullest potential. Skills / Knowledge / Experience Requirements: • Proficiency in keyboard/organ, strong choral training, choral and orchestral directing experience. Degree in music performance or music education preferred. • Competency in both traditional and contemporary Christian music. • Experience in leading worship in both traditional and contemporary styles. • Experience in appropriately incorporating drama, multimedia, visual/electronic arts into worship experiences. • Strong communication skills and an ability to resolve conflict. • Experience recruiting, organizing and engaging volunteers. Tasks and Responsibilities of the Position: 1) Worship Arts, Generally • Prepare the Order of Worship for the church bulletin each week and for special worship services and events. • Provide guidance and leadership for the Worship Arts Committee. • Coordinate maintenance of music library and worship arts supplies, materials and equipment. • Coordinate with staff and support church functions with appropriate inclusion of worship arts. • Maintain annual worship arts calendar to coordinate all activities. • Prepare and administer budget line items pertaining to worship arts ministry. • Develop and expand worship arts programs to include musicians and artists of all varieties, ages and styles. • Develop ways to use the worship arts program as outreach to the Americus community. • Develop, support and oversee direction and preparation of other groups for worship services and other worship arts ministries such as children’s and youth choirs, Praise Team, handbell choir, drama and/or dance groups, orchestra and instrumental groups, and soloists and vocal ensembles. 2) Chancel Choir • Select music and lead rehearsals. • Create music calendar for services and special events. • Recruit and develop new members. • Develop and support choir officers. • Plan and implement special emphases for growth. • Introduce and support varied styles of worship music. • Plan and implement annual choir retreat. • Foster an orderly and welcoming environment in rehearsals. 3) Growth Groups • Plan and coordinate small group ministries with Senior Pastor’s guidance • Secure leaders and hosts. • Prepare calendar and record of attendance. 4) Children’s Music & Arts Camp • Plan and implement annual Children’s Music & Arts Camp each summer. 5) Communion • Schedule persons to prepare the elements for each Holy Communion. • Schedule persons to be servers for each Holy Communion. 6) Media • Develop teams to serve as audio and visual media technicians to provide sound reinforcement and projection of texts and images to best enhance the worship experience. • Schedule persons to serve as audio and visual media technicians. 7) Website • Provide guidance and leadership for the Information Technology Committee as it relates to the church website. 8) Other • Prepare announcements for the screens in the Social Hall during Wednesday Church Suppers. • Unlock and lock church buildings on Sunday mornings. • Lead the Worship Arts Committee meetings.
